The 10th Birthday Bit

FuturLab was born on November 12th 2003, a company with a goal to create interactive art to entertain and challenge in equal measure. I thought it might be nice to explain why it’s called FuturLab.

Lab
The fine art course I studied encouraged analytical thinking, applying objective reasoning to creativity whenever possible, and whilst I couldn’t draw, paint or sculpt to save my life, I was good at thinking about art, spotting rules in systems, and subverting those systems to find exciting new rules.

Futur
I wanted to create artistic entertainment, and even then was passionate about someday working with PlayStation. I guessed it was probably going to take a while to get there, but was determined to define my own future.

FuturLab
A ‘laboratory for designing the future’ sounded bold and brave and ambitious, and something worthy of committing years of effort to.

It has taken a long time to get here, but now we’ve got an amazing team of talented people, and our game is coming to a PlayStation home console!

What better release date than our 10th anniversary? 😀

Thanks very much to our team, our fans and the people at Curve Studios for making this happen!

Onwards and upwards…

Velocity on minis ran on PS3 in an emulator, so couldn’t benefit from online leaderboards, trophies, dual sticks etc.
